Little Bo Peep

Little Bo Peep History:

A touching and relatable story, this nursery rhyme is well known far and wide across England, with its fame also earning it a place in the Roud Folk Song Index under the number 6487.

The earliest direct mention of the Little Bo Peep dates back to the start of the 19th century, wherein a manuscript contained the first verse of the song. Certain references appear earlier, dating back as far as the 16th and 17th century with casual mentions of parts of the rhyme.

On the other hand, the actual message of the song might not be as dark as the literal interpretation, seeing that Bo-Peep was simply a name for the well known game played with babies, Peek-a-boo.

Little Bo Peep Lyrics:

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep
And doesn’t know where to find them
Leave them alone
And they’ll come home
Wagging their tails behind them

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep
And doesn’t know where to find them
Leave them alone
And they’ll come home
Wagging their tails behind them
